Took the Boostang for a spin. Now I have to live with knowing the first Mustang I ever drove was a four cylinder automatic.
AMA, Oppo. I'll try and knock out a full Oppo review before the end of the week. In the meantime, ask away so I can get some more ideas for the review.
No Recaros here.
Dat ass.
Went knuckle deep before full dragon.

So you drove the Mustang that 85% of Mustang buyers will actually buy?

How does the steering wheel feel.and how responsive is the steering itself

I was standing behind the car when the salesman started it up with the remote. I was immediately impressed with the depth of the exhaust note. Clean too.

I must be part of that 15% then, right now I feel like I'd rather have the V6 manual over the Ecoboost. Don't know why though,

Interesting. What are your thoughts about the automatic transmission? Do you think it is a viable alternative to the manual?

Below the "D", you can shift it into "S" and use the paddle shifters. They had a good ergonomic feel. Shifts are fairly quick, too.

Oh yeah, I remember seeing you post this car to Oppo months ago. Looks great in that color (Guard?)

I'd heard the steering wheel feels great, and sure enough it was true. 10/10, would steer again.
Responsiveness isn't quite perfect, but damn good. 8/10

It mostly doesn't suck. As for the parts that do suck, they only suck a little bit, so nbd.

Absolutely. It was quite the experience. Unfortunately since I haven't driven other Mustangs, I have no basis for comparison. But in general, I would love a lot more time with the car to get to know it better.

It's the best Ford green. Best green is a tie between GM's Lime Rock Metallic or Toyota's Spruce Green Mica.

Sitting behind the wheel, the hood seems monstrous. But knowing there's only a turbo four under there just seems like mixed messages.
It's a big small car. Or a small big car. Idk, but I can see some TTV in it. I want it.

In my best Nelson voice. . . "HA HA!" Your first drive in a mustang was a turbo 4 cylinder.
Now that I got that out of the way, I'm curious as to how you felt it handled. Did it feel reasonably stiff, as in chassis wise not ride? All the mustangs I've driven have been plagued by a horrible wet noodle they call a chassis that has been disconnected from the rear end. Granted most of the new mustangs that will be sold will end up the turbo 4 mated with the auto, was it livable?
I kind of want to see how the aftermarket is going to take to the turbo 4 and can't really wait to see some silly stuff happen with these. I can't lie and say I wasn't a fan of the SVO after I learned about them.
Try and get your hands around the wheel and stick of a "new edge" GT and make a comparison at some point in time, you might be astounded at how terrible they were. This ecoboost is putting out almost as much power as that 4.6 did. . .

Oh I get it. Vagina, because it's only a four cylinder auto.
It's actually a pretty quick car, considering the vehicle weight and number of cylinders involved.

Unfortunately I couldn't push the car hard enough to get a good feel for the chassis. But ride-wise, the car handles great. Feels planted, and I wish I could have taken some corners at fast speed. Overall this car is very livable.
I know that chassis feel. I consider myself very familiar with a wet noodle chassis seeing as how I DD a Saab convertible.
I can't wait to see all the aftermarket fun stuff floating around. Just the thought of an ECU reflash this car has me all giddy.
I'd love to drive a new edge GT sometime, no matter how terrible they were.
This ecoboost is putting out almost as much power as that 4.6 did. . .
Edmunds lists the 2004 GT at 260 HP/302 lb-ft, whereas the Boostang is pushing 310 HP/320 lb-ft. Just that alone is some nuts shit to think about.
Squid

10/21/2014 at 21:11 | 0 |
I was too lazy to actually look up specs, I knew the 4.6 was 260-285 but I couldn't remember what the new ecoboost was putting out. It is kind of insane how much more power the new 4 banger is putting out over the old mod motor 8.
At one time I had a buddy that had an 04 GT and I would trade him cars to do the services for him on saturdays, that car made me like mustangs but hate them at the same time. LSD rear end with no panhard bar means the axle stays glued to the ground while the body kind of floats around over it and can get you into some snap oversteer really quickly. I can't believe we did some of the stupid stuff we did in that car. They are pretty fun, but now they are pretty much not worth buying unless you really like them.
I like that Ford is now actually trying to put out a car that is good and not just the same car with a new body like the mustang was for so many decades.

I like that Ford is now trying too... I was a Mustang-hating Saab fanboy for 13 years. But now that we live in a world where Saab is dead and Ford is actually trying, I'm suddenly a Mustang fan. And I'll bet a lot of other people out there are new fans to the Mustang as well. Good on Ford.

The SVO engine ran 14 psi stock, and could be ran to 25 without internal work, that's ambitious for this car probably, but the SVO's were rated at 175 hp I beleive (merkurs were at least) but could be ran to between 350 and 400 hp without internal work. So if the new 4 cyl is at 310, and can get half the gains, it would still be at the 380-390 range without modding internals, all that just by cranking up boost (and some supporting mods of course) all this is just hearsay of course until someone actually does it. Can't wait to see what gains better tuners than I can get out of it.
